Psalms and Parables

I felt the need to share some excellent resources which I've discovered (or rediscovered) when thinking about the Bread readings of the last couple of days.

The first is a real 'go-to' series of sermons on the Psalms by a US pastor-scholar called James Hamilton who is the author of the 2 volume Evangelical Biblical Theology Commentary on the Psalms, but who also has an entire series of sermons on the Psalms on YouTube. Some of the Psalms are grouped together in a single sermon, but there are 107 sermons in total.

Better still, if you want to download the audio recording only, you can go to the website of the church where JH is pastor - Kenwood Baptist Church, Louisville, Kentucky - and find the series on the Psalms there (compiled slightly differently with 115 recordings). I've listened to about a dozen of these and recommend them highly.

For reading - if you have spare time and don't mind Victorian English - all of C H Spurgeon's sermons on the Psalms (published as the Treasury of David) can be read online from here.

Then musing over the rather disturbing (and no doubt intentionally disturbing) Parable of the Ten Minas in Luke 19, I did a search and came up with some (naturally) excellent material from the Bible Project.

They have a series of 7 (downloadable) podcast discussions on the Parables, each with a very helpful set of notes on the accompanying web page. The one I found when searching was episode 5 called 'Decoding the Parables' which includes a discussion on the Ten Minas.
